The 4th of July is just a few days away. Over 74 million people will be barbecuing on that day. That is a lot of fire! Here are a few simple grilling tips for those of us who don't grill often enough.
1.Trim the fat to 1/8 inch on your steaks to prevent flare ups.
2. Use tongs when turning meat. If you pierce the meat with a fork, the natural juices will escape.
3. Marinate your meat to add more flavor and to tenderize it.
4.Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 20 minutes before using them on the grill.
5. If you have a flare up on the grill don't try to douse it with water. If you are using a gas grill, close the lid on the grill and turn down the heat until the flame goes out.
Friday is going to be a BIG day!
Pam from Pam's Midwest Kitchen Korner will be live on my radio show called Fast Food Fridays on the PCL Radio Network. She won my cookbook in June. You can listen over the internet by clicking on the PCL link. We will be on around 8:20 a.m. mountain time.
Also on Friday, I will be drawing a name from my followers to win a copy of my cookbook called MY KIND OF COOKING. If your name is drawn and you have a blog, I will mention your blog address on the radio and then post your blog address on my blog.
My husband also loves grilling out side, in South Africa we call it Braaivleis, or just braai for short. Barbecue in the UK. We will wait for the 14th July here, Bastille Day. Nigel arrives on the 13th and there is a big fireworks display that night. Diane
ReplyDeleteHi Lynda,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips. It will be great having Pam in your programme and both of you will have fun and lots of things to talk about!
Love,
Lia.
I am the grill master in our house! My boyfriend won't even go near the grill!! Then again, he won't step foot in the kitchen either! lol Great tips..thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt is the fire! Every boy is drawn to the idea of creating fire. It's in our hunter DNA, I think. If you also love to cook, the grill is captivating.
ReplyDeleteThese are some really great tips : ) Thank you so much for sharing right before the big grilling day takes place!
ReplyDeleteDiane, I love to go to Braais in South Africa! We had a Potjie (a meal cooked cast iron dutch oven)when we were there last month.
ReplyDeleteLia, Salsa Verde, I am really looking forward to having Pam on my show. If it goes well (which I know it will), I will invite other bloggers on future shows.
Way to go Jenn! Girls can grill! I grill when my husband is running late or working on something else, but he really enjoys grill.
Joe, I had an idea it must be the fire. Thanks for confirming my assumption!
Thanks Life with Kaishon! I am going to go and check out your blog.
I"m not a big griller but I love when the husband does it! Can't wait to hear Pam on the radio!
ReplyDeleteMy husband loves grilling too! It kind of overwhelms me, but I'm definitely bookmarking this post to reference each time I give it a shot of my own :) Thanks for the great tips! Ps, I'm following your blog!
ReplyDeleteOhh Happy 4th July!! I forgot that was coming (we dont celebrate it here in NZ) But my hubby sure loves to use our BBQ as well.
ReplyDeleteGrilling is one of the BEST parts of summer! Woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteI have a new phone. It has a touch screen and I am still getting used to it. I accedently touch the reject button instead of the publish button and was not able to publish Pam's comment. Below is Pam's Midwest Kitchen Korner's comment.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda! Bill loves to grill also, it must be a man thing! He does a great job though that I reap the benefits from. Great tips here also, he is a firm believer in #2!
I am so looking forward to chatting with you on the radio! It will be a blast and I am honored to be doing it!
Have a great day!
Debbie, I am glad you are going to listen to Pam on the radio! I hope to make it a regular feature to have other bloggers on my show.
ReplyDeleteBaking.serendipity thanks for following my blog! I follow yours too!
Angela, thanks for stopping by! I think almost all men love to BBQ.
Noni, I agree with you, grilling is the best part of summer. Instead of gathering in the kitchen it is fun to gather around the grill.
My Weber and I are one.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of the grill too..esp. when i'm in the tropics..way too hot to grill anything..although some of my friends love it. Undeniably, it does make really tasty food..
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great tips! Happy 4th of July! I'm enjoying your blog very much!
ReplyDeleteDavid, does your Weber use charcoal?
ReplyDeleteFaithy, the baker, when it is hot I feel like eating salads and fruit not hot food, so I can get what you mean.
Dishesdone, Happy 4th of July to you too! I am glad I ran into your blog. You have great content!
I'm passing along your grilling tips to my husband, the newly emerging chef at the grill. I'm looking forward to what he comes up with for the 4th of July.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
