Kitchen Gadgets

Where did the idea come from, that gift certificates are an impersonal gift?  I think gift cards to your favorite stores are a very thoughtful gift!  Not only do you get exactly what you want, but you get the pleasure of shopping for it.  I love to shop, so for me they are a perfect gift.

My birthday was last week.  My husband and son gave me gift cards.  My husband gave me a gift card to one of my favorite stores for purchasing kitchen and household items, Crate and Barrel.  My son gave me a gift card to one of my favorite stores for purchasing clothing, makeup, shoes, purses, and more, Dillard's.
I love kitchen gadgets!  My kitchen is full of them and I am always on the lookout for more.  A couple of my favorite purchases at, Crate and Barrel, were these stainless steel salt and pepper mills.  They are so cool!  You push the button on the top and fresh ground sea salt or pepper comes out the bottom.  Christmas is just around the corner and they would make a great gift for the foodie in your life.

Getting gifts for your birthday is fun, but my favorite thing about birthdays are spending them with family.  I was able to spend mine with my husband Stan and our son Tyler.  They went out of their way to make my birthday a happy one.  I am a very blessed woman to have such a wonderful husband and son!

Do you have a favorite kitchen gadget?
If you do, I would love to hear what it is!

  1. I really like the salt and pepper mills. I'll have to check those out. I guess I would call my electric kettle my favorite gadget except that it died last week!!

  2. I also love vouchers as long as they are for sensible shops! My press button pepper mill has just recently given up the ghost and no amount of coaxing would get it working again :-( I will have to go shopping again, maybe I will get a voucher for Christmas! Diane

  4. I LOVE my salt and pepper mills! For some odd reason they have a light on the bottom so you can see what you're peppering... I guess it's so you can eat in the dark!

  5. Sheila, I love my electric kettle too! We drink lots of tea, so I would be lost without it.

Diane, I am sorry your pepper mill broke! I hate it when something I love breaks.

Jenn, it is hard to pick just one kitchen gadget you love. I need to sharpen my knives.

McVal, I have never seen one with a light on the bottom. I guess if you are eating by candlelight it would come in handy.

  8. Pam, it was a fantastic birthday! I also like the Bash and Chop but mine is not Grahm Kerr's it's Progressive. Great tool in the kitchen!

Thanks Bo! I hope you had fun in Nashville! I have been thinking about getting a Vitamix Blender but I don't know how often I would use it. What do you make with yours?

  9. I also like gift cards for my birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas...etc, but my kids also think it's impersonal. I keep telling them that it's the one way that I'll actually indulge and buy something from Crate and Barrel or Williams Sonoma that I wouldn't typically splurge on.

  12. Wow, cool gadgets! My favorite was a cheap, battery-operated knife sharpener, but I can't use it anymore, the sharpening stone has worn off, now I can't find the same one anywhere!

  13. Mine isn't so much a gadget, but I am in total love with my bamboo cutting board. Don't ask me why. LOL I love to find things just to chop on it.

  14. I also LOVE gift cards. I love to save them for those times when I get the itch to spend, spend, spend!
I would have to say my favorite kitchen gadget is my Chef'n Palm peeler that I bought from Target. Which is funny because because I use to hate peeling vegetables but now I get kind of excited since it is so easy now. Its so amazing because this peeler sits in the palm of your hand making it surprisingly natural to peel your vegetables.
