Once you open natural peanut butter, it spoils quicker than other types of commercial peanut butter. A little trick she learned to help keep it fresher longer is to keep it in the refrigerator upside down. It will last up to four months that way.

I don't think you are alone:-). There is definitely a different consistency to the natural and the separation is a TOTAL pain. I love this idea..as a matter of fact when I go to my fridge I am flipping my peanut butter over. I always have the non-natural stuff in my pantry and that is what I typically use.

DeleteYep, the upside down trick works and make it marginally easier to stir I think. But give me Jiff or Peter Pan any day. (Blasphemy!)

DeleteI can't eat that stuff either. My very favorite I find at the deli counter at Publix grocers. They grind it themselves...so they say...and it is in a small tub and it tastes like pure peanuts. Love it. No sugar, no salt, just peanuts.

DeleteI don't like natural peanut butter either! I wish I did! So what does storing it upside down do to make it last longer?? Or is that so the oil won't settle at the top? I love when those simple ideas turn out to be brilliant!

DeleteI have a jar of the very thing you have pictured. It is my first time to try natural peanut butter. I'll stick with it until I use it up or it expires just because I'm so against wasting food. But it will be the last jar of that I buy.

DeleteI don't buy Smucker's PB, because of the mess on top...I buy Jif or Skippy they use palm oil so they don't seperate.

DeleteI so agree, Linda! Natural PB is so gritty and I stick with good old crunchy Jif or Skippy. That reminds me to make some PB cookies, yum!
