Recipe: Grilled Dry Rub Steaks

Grilled Dry Rub Steaks

2 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon onion powder
2 (8 ounce) rib eye steaks

In small bowl, combine paprika, brown sugar, and onion powder.  Mix well.  Rub mixture over steaks.  Grill steaks over medium high heat to desired doneness.  Makes 2 servings.

When mixing up a batch of this dry rub, use the paprika of your choice.  There are so many to pick from.  Sweet Paprika, Smokey Paprika, Spicy Paprika, Chipotle Paprika,  I could go on and on but I think you get the idea.  This recipe is just a starting place.  If you have a picky family, this is a good basic and mild rub to test out on them.  It gives the steak a delicious sweet and savory flavor.

This is the recipe I was cooking up when the rattlesnakes came a calling.  Scrambled Hen Fruit called this recipe "Snake Bait" Dry Rub when she left a comment on Tuesday's post.  Maybe I should change the name, "Snake Bait" Dry Rub, it has a good ring to it.
I will be drawing a name from my followers to win a copy of my cookbook, MY KIND OF COOKING, next Friday, August 6th.  If your name is drawn and you have a blog, I will mention your blog address on my "Fast Food Friday's" radio show on the The Passion Radio Network, and then post your blog address on my blog. Sign up as a FOLLOWER for your chance to win!

  3. Oh I would love to make this. Unfortunately I don't have a barbecue and I know from experience that sugar on a grill pan makes everyone think the house is actually on fire. Especially the landlord. I guess I'll put it in the "someday" file. Thanks!

  4. MMMM... I only use grass fed beef so for some time we've been eating them "virgin" getting used to the 'new' flavor of what beef used to taste like (before corn fed, feedlots) but I am going to have to give this a try! Variety is the spice of life, right? Oh, but I think I'll skip the rattlesnakes.

  5. Diane, you are funny! i promise they are not rattlesnake.

Pam, thanks for following! I love your blog!

Gnee @Singing With Birds, I like simple recipes that are full of flavor.

Recipe for Delicious, I hope you get a grill someday. I love mine, minus the rattlesnakes of course.

The Good Cook, when you make this recipe, I would suggest letting the rub sit on the steak for about an hour. It will help to flavor the steak more and that may help to mask the fact that the healthier meat tastes different.

  10. Linda, I just listened to your segment on Passion Radio!

Hearing you talk about the snake was incredible, so scary! I have to say it was pretty funny with Buddy though and I can imagine you having to carry him out the door the next morning! He's one smart dog!

And Fareed's story was absolutely the worst with his sister and the Cobra. I'm sure he and his father were petrified!

Good segment, even if it was about snakes! LOL!

  26. Ribeye doesn't NEED anything more than salt and pepper but I do like to mix it up every now and then and do something different like this dry rub. I just did some soy, ginger, and garlic ones last night. It's just a nice change of pace.

  27. Dry rubs are the best. For a really simple rub, I like using brisket rub. It's a good flavor and tenderizes the meat. Great photos.
